Breast Cancer Awareness.

I was detected with FIBROADENOMA⁣⁣ when I was 15 years old. It started with one small peanut size lump in one of my breast to multiple lumps in both my breasts. No, I m not dying. It’s a BENIGN LUMP. But I m advised to go for regular breast ultrasound every six months to keep an eye on any increase in size or number of the lumps.

October is breast cancer awareness month.

And, I am sharing information related to the TYPES of BREAST LUMPS commonly found in breasts to help you understand and quickly take action if you notice any kind of lumps in the breast.

Types of Breast Lumps ⁣⁣ :

BREAST CYST -

•Affecting up to 33% of women aged 35-50 years⁣⁣

•Cysts are more common in women approaching menopause, although they can occur at any age⁣⁣

•They are usually oval or round lumps that are smooth and firm. They tend to move slightly when pressed. ⁣⁣

•It is common for them to appear within two weeks prior to your period and then go away ⁣⁣

•Cysts cannot turn into cancer and do not always need treating once the diagnosis has been confirmed. Where treatment is needed, it typically involves draining the fluid from the cyst. This is done by using a thin needle inserted into your breast by the doctor. After draining, some cysts will refill with fluid but can be drained again. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣

FIBROADENOMA -

•Most common type of benign breast lump⁣⁣

•Commonest in 15-35 year old, most common in 20s⁣⁣

•Usually very mobile, smooth, rubbery feeling and well circumscribed, not usually painful⁣⁣

•20% are multiple- seen in both breasts or multiple on one breast⁣⁣

•Hormonally sensitive and maybe more prominent/ painful around your period.⁣⁣

•Diagnosed by ultrasound and biopsy⁣⁣

•Sometimes they can disappear of their own accord or they can be removed. They tend to go after the menopause.⁣⁣

FIBROSYSTIC BREAST CHANGES -

⁣⁣

•Can be caused by a collection of fibrous tissue in an area of the breast. Fibrous tissue is the same tissue that ligaments and scar tissue are made of.⁣⁣

•Usually presents with a painful mobile lump⁣⁣

•Can be in one or two breasts⁣⁣

•Usually affects women before the menopause⁣⁣

•Believed to be due to hormonal imbalance

Share this post with your moms, spouse and friends to spread awareness about breast cancer as early detection can save someone’s life.
