I just spoke to a first time mama friend on phone who had a baby four months back. She told me that postpartum recovery was so much harder than she realized. She said she wished she had known better what to expect - from breastfeeding challenges, to feeling sore, to not sleeping a lot, the constipation, itching in the scar, to not having enough Advil on hand (her words!)
I can relate to all of it. I think many moms can. Being a mom is hard and exhausting. And,on top of that this Covid-19 has made things worse. New Moms are barely stepping out of the house because of the constant fear. They are totally isolated. There is so much anxiety and uncertainty about the future. Some of them wish to resume their job but are unable to do so, as they have no support system (nanny/parents/friends/cook) because of the whole social distancing thing.
I moved to new country with an infant after giving birth through C-sec. I had no friends or family around. I was struggling physically & mentally. This is one of the major reason that so many pre/postnatal instructors start their career after giving birth themselves. (including myself) As, nobody talks or prepares us about the postpartum blues. There is very little support and knowledge about postpartum journey and recovery.
All the 2020 mommies, I see you. I feel you. You are doing so well. You are not alone. ❤️❤️
For the best care for your baby, you need to be healthy. Do one self-care activity everyday for your mental and physical wellness in order to be the best mom you can be. Remember, self-care is anything but selfish.
